The Center for Community Health and Well-Being is a health and human
services agency that was founded in 1988 as The Birthing Project, an all
volunteer, community service project to lower Infant Mortality in
Sacramento. We have grown to include a comprehensive women’s health care
clinic, risk reduction programs for youth and parenting education,
employment referrals and social support for fathers.
Originally established to reduce the high mortality rate among African
American infants, the Center now serves all of our community’s diverse
population. Over 400 babies a year are born healthy to clients who have also
received parenting and nutrition education, family planning, job placement
services and substance abuse treatment, if necessary.
The agency mission is to actively engage community residents in identifying
our needs; planning, implementing and evaluating services and working
collaboratively with other agencies, organizations and individuals to
improve and maximize our health status. The majority of the staff is
comprised of previous clients and/or residents of the neighborhoods we serve
and reflect the ethnicity, gender and ages of our clients.
We are funded primarily by income we earn through our clinic services,
foundation grants and the generous contributions of organizations,
businesses and individuals like you
